Overview

[]
SNA/Token Ring Link/iX (J2249A) provides a native Token Ring connection for HP 3000 Series 900 systems with the HP-PB (HP Precision Bus or NIO) backplane. This product can be used to connect your HP 3000 Series 900 system to a Token Ring network that is compatible with either IEEE 802.5 or IBM Token Ring protocol. SNA/Token Ring Link/iX, using the SNA transport, provides the token ring network connection to a remote IBM host or AS/400 for SNA services running on the HP 3000 Series 900. SNA services supported over the connection are SNA IMF/iX, SNA NRJE/iX, LU 6.2 API/iX, SNA DHCF/iX, and SNA Distribution Services/iX. SNA/Token Ring Link/iX, depending upon the SNA service, allows the HP 3000 to appear as a Node Type 2.0 (T2.0) or Node Type 2.1 (T2.1) device supporting logical unit types LU 1, LU 2, LU 3, and LU 6.2. The product is capable of running at 4 Mbps (megabits-per-second) or 16 Mbps over Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) wiring and at 4 Mbps over Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) wiring. You can easily configure the ring speed by setting a jumper on the token ring adapter card. Attachment to UTP requires a wiring converter/filter that is not available as a product from Hewlett-Packard. Hewlett-Packard allows SNA services (using the SNA transport) to run concurrently with NS services (using the TCP/IP transport) over the same token ring adapter card. When you configure the SNA token ring link using the HP Node Management Services utility NMMGR, changes could affect the NS token ring link, if configured. SNA/Token Ring Link/iX includes the HP-PB Token Ring network adapter card, Token Ring driver software, SNA transport software, on-line diagnostics, and hardware and software manuals. Token ring cabling and additional token ring hardware accessories are not included with this product. This product is supported as of MPE/iX Release 5.0. IBM Host Hardware/Software Requirements * IBM System/370 compatible mainframe * IBM 37xx compatible communications controller that supports an NCP Token Ring Interface (NTRI) connection or an IBM 3174 Establishment Controller that supports Token Ring * MVS/SP or MVS/XA operating system * ACF/NCP network control program * ACF/VTAM telecommunications access method * NCP Token Ring Interface (NTRI) software (NCP version 4 release 3 or later for the IBM 3725, and version 5 release 4 for the IBM 3745) IBM AS/400 Hardware/Software Requirements * IBM AS/400 computer with the appropriate communications controller card installed * OS/400 operating system (all SNA related software is included within the OS/400 operating system)
