COMMUNICATOR 3000 MPE/iX Release 5.0 (Core Software Release X.50.20)
MPE/iX 4.0 and 4.5 Support Termination
by Amy Blocher
Commercial Systems Division
The general release version of MPE/iX 5.0, which is the second Software
Platform Release to be introduced by Hewlett-Packard, provides an
extremely stable release. This version of MPE/iX supercedes the previous
Platform Release, MPE/iX 4.0. After the general release version of XL
Release 5.0 has been distributed to every support customer who is
entitled to software updates, the support life for previous MPE/iX
releases will soon terminate.
The support life of a release is dependent on its distribution type.
MPE/iX Release 4.0, which was distributed to the entire MPE/iX installed
customer base, is supported until 12 months after the general release
version of MPE/iX Release 5.0 is distributed. This means that
Hewlett-Packard support for MPE/iX Release 4.0 terminates on September 1,
1995.
MPE/iX Release 4.5, which was not distributed to the entire MPE/iX
installed base, is supported until 6 months after MPE/iX Release 5.0 is
distributed. That is, MPE/iX Release 4.5 will no longer be supported by
Hewlett-Packard after April 1, 1995. Please note that MPE/iX 5.0 was
delivered in two stages to customers. The first stage known as the
limited release version of MPE/iX 5.0 was not distributed to the entire
MPE/iX installed base, and thus, it will only be supported for up to 6
months after the general release version of MPE/iX 5.0 is distributed.
This means that the limited release version of MPE/iX 5.0 will no longer
be supported by Hewlett-Packard after April 1, 1995.
As a reminder, XL Releases 2.2, 3.0, and 3.1 as well as older versions
are no longer supported by Hewlett-Packard.
If you are currently using any of these releases, you should update your
systems to a supported version of MPE/iX Release before Hewlett-Packard
discontinues support of these older releases.
