Rosetta Store Rosetta Store is a new utility that lets you restore data from MPE backup tapes onto non-MPE systems such as HP-UX. Besides just extracting the raw data from tape, Rosetta Store knows the internal format of things like TurboImage databases so it can actually provide the information in a format that's immediately useful. It knows how to convert TurboImage databases into Eloquence databases, XML, and other formats. Not just databases but all kinds of MPE files can be restored using Rosetta Store. Rosetta Store solves several problems that may be faced by MPE customers before, during, and after, their transition off of the HP3000 platform. The product can be used to inter-operate with applications on other platforms by converting MPE data files into a form usable by a foreign application. A user could create a :STORE to DISK file of some MPE data files and send that file over the network to a HP-UX system where Rosetta Store would be used to extract the data into the format usable by the local application.

Users who are in the process of migrating off of MPE will need to migrate their data from the MPE platform to the new platform(s). This traditionally would require the creation of separate extract, transport, and import processes, plus the infrastructure to execute them when needed. Rosetta Store can perform all of these operations without requiring the user to write extensive custom programs, and it can perform all of the operations on all or a subset of the user data as often as required. The ability to easily perform repeated data conversions will ease the portion of the transition during which both old and new systems exist in parallel, either for development, testing, or true parallel operation.


Users who may no longer have an HP3000 machine will be able to use Rosetta Store to retrieve archival information from their library of MPE backup tapes (HP Store, TurboStore, or ORBiT Backup+). This will help customers meet regulatory and other legal requirements, as well as allowing them to eliminate the need to keep a working MPE system around longer than they would like.
