In the examples in this chapter, you were directed back to the editor to text
the output file to view the results of the sort operation. The MPE XL
:PRINT command allows you to view the results of the sort operation
without calling EDIT/V. The command also allows you to print the results of the
sort on the system printer.
For example, to view the results of a single key sort, as shown earlier in this
chapter, you would proceed, as follows:

To have a copy of this report printed on the line printer use the MPE XL
:FILE command to establish the following equation:
:FILE T;DEV=LP
:PRINT COMPANY, *T
This equation establishes T as the file equated with the line printer.
That is then backreferenced with the :PRINT command to send the file
COMPANY to the line printer.
