This chapter provides step-by-step instructions
for modifying terminal or printer type files. Terminal and printer
type files define the software operating characteristics of the
terminals and printers directly or remotely attached to Datacommunications
and Terminal Controllers (DTCs). The MPE/iX operating system has
multiple terminal and printer type files that have various settings,
such as different record width sizes and bits per second (bps).
By following the steps in this chapter, the MPE/iX terminal and
printer type files can be customized to match the operation requirements
of the attached device.
When modifying a terminal or printer type file, start with
one of the files supplied in the MPE/iX operating system. Refer
to Appendix C “Terminal Type Files” to choose
a file that has the same basic functionality as the file that needs
to be created. Rename this file and then make modifications to it,
as required.
If, for example, a file needs to be created to work with buffered
network printers, use printer type 26 as the base file for the modifications.
If the device is a terminal attached to a PAD, use the PAD terminal
type file (terminal type 24) as the base file for the modifications.
Using similar base files will limit the number of modifications
required because their contents already define similar software
operating characteristics.
For additional information on terminal and printer type files,
refer to Configuring Systems for Terminals, Printers,
and Other Serial Devices.

printer type files will be generically referred to as terminal type
files. |
