Overview
The 9 Gigabyte (GB) disk drive has been available since March 1997 as an
embedded disk and as of April 1997 in the mass storage enclosure on the
HP 3000 computer systems. Due to the performance of these disks, there are
special requirements for their use on MPE/iX HP 3000 computer systems. Before
installing this disk drive, consider the following:
- While the 9 GB disks are supported as an embedded disk, they cannot be
used as LDEV 1 (the boot disk). Therefore, customers ordering the 9 GB
disk as an internal disk must also order a smaller boot disk such as a
2 GB or 4 GB for the LDEV 1 disk. The 9 GB disk can then be just another
disk in the system domain.
- Due to a number of differences in technology, the 9 GB disk drive is
only supported on MPE/iX 5.5 and later releases.
Documentation shipped with the disk to help with installation has information
which incorrectly implies that the 9 GB is supported on MPE/iX 5.0. The
patches referenced in the documentation are for support of the EMC disk array
which also uses 9 GB disk drives. The 9 GB disk drive documentation is being
changed to state that the current 9 GB disk drive is only supported on MPE/iX
5.5 and later releases.
