MPE/iX Patches on HP Electronic Support Center
MPE patches are now available on HP Electronic Support Center via the Internet
to all customers. For more details, refer to the article, "MPE/iX Patches Now
on HP Electronic Support Center," in this chapter.
HP Instant Information CD-Rom
HP Instant Information is a replacement for the HP LaserRom on-line document
delivery system. For more details, refer to the article, "HP Instant
Information for Delivery of Learning Products," in this chapter.
Chapter 2, System Information/Before You Install
- "Updating To and Backdating From MPE/iX 6.0" briefly describes the
requirements for updating to MPE/iX 6.0 and backdating from MPE/iX
6.0.
- "Planning Your Move to MPE/iX Release 6.0" describes the requirements
and procedures for updating to MPE/iX Release 6.0, including the disk
space requirements.
- "Upgrading a Pre-997 Corporate Business Server to a 997" explains some
configuration considerations when upgrading to a 997 server.
- "Special Note on SCSI Device Configuration for MPE/iX 6.0" explains some
considerations in configuring SCSI devices.
- "New MPE/iX Obsolescence Strategy" explains Hewlett-Packard's revised
plan for obsoleting operating systems.
- "HP System Account and Directory Naming Structure" adds information on
reserved directory names and a list of these names.
Chapter 3, System Management
- "User Defined Job Queues" explains that MPE/iX can now have more than
one job queue. It also explains the HIPRI option of ALTJOB.
- "Overview of HP Patch/iX" gives an overview of the Patch Management tool,
HP Patch/iX. For a technical overview, see the technical article, "HP
Patch/iX Technical Overview," in Chapter 10, "Technical Articles."
- "Overview of HP Stage/iX" describes HP Stage/iX, which is an operating
system facility for applying and managing MPE/iX patches on your
systems.
- "Transaction Manager Overview" gives an overview of System Log Expansion,
Checkpoint Improvement, and Copy-Forward.
- "Increase in Number of TCP Connections" explains how to configure your
system to allow up to 5600 connections.
- "Overview of CI Enhancements" describes the new functionality added to
the CI software to improve the ease of use and overall functionality for
C.55.03 and 6.0. Refer also to "CI Enhancements for the Year 2000," in
the chapter, "Year 2000 Enhancements," and for more detailed information

- "MPE/iX POSIX Installation Changes" explains the installation changes
for MPE/iX POSIX.

Chapter 4, System Support Tools
- "Predictive Support" describes the new peripherals and SPUs supported by
Predictive.
- "On-Line Diagnostics System (Sherlock)" explains that the Sherlock
system will add support for new systems.
- "GLANCE has a New Name and a New Home!" reports that HP GlancePlus/XL
has been renamed to HP GlancePlus/iX and the program file has also been
renamed. There is a Customer Trial Demonstration available to provide a
one-time-only trial period for the use of the Glance performance
tool.

to Transact/V and Transact/iX.
- "Dictionary/3000" describes the capability of copying entities with the
new COPY command, and the ability to enter elements multiple
times within an HP Inform group.
- "Inform/V" describes enhancements to support a new version of
Dictionary/3000.
- "HP ALLBASE/BRW" explains that this version of ALLBASE/BRW focuses on a
TPI defect repair.
- "COBOL II/iX Enhancements" describes the COBOL II/iX enhancements.
- "Query/iX Enhancements" describes the enhancements made to QUERY to
utilize the new B-tree index features in TurboIMAGE/XL.

in Version G3. Reviews these major enhancements in version G2: new

RPC Clients modules for FOS.

network link that provides HP 3000 systems with a connection to a 100VG
local area network.
- "Introducing 100Base-T Network Adapter" describes the high-speed network
link that provides HP 3000 systems with a connection to a 100Base-T
local area network.
- "Introducing the REMSH Client Functionality" describes the REMSH Client
that allows a user to connect to the remote system, execute a command on
that remote system, and see the results of that command.
- "Hewlett-Packard NetWorker ClientPak for MPE/iX" explains that MPE/iX
Express 3 for 5.5 (or later version) or a patch is required for the
Legato NetWorker ClientPak.
- "Introducing ODBCLink/SE" gives an overview of the product replacing HP
PC/API for ALLBASE/SQL links.
- "Overview of the DTS/TIO Subsystem" describes the new features of the
Datacommunications and Terminal Subsystem (DTS).
- "Telnet/iX Server — Full Functionality Release" describes the
Telnet/iX Server enhancement on MPE/iX Release 5.5, which strengthens
the HP 3000 as an open system by providing access between the HP 3000
and computers that support Telnet, such as UNIX-based systems and PCs.

- "FTP Enhancements" gives an overview of the new FTP features.
- "Samba/iX Overview" gives an overview of Samba/iX.
- "Introducing Java/iX " gives an overview of Java.
Chapter 8, Peripherals
- "9 GB Disk Drive" is an announcement that the 9 Gigabyte (GB) disk drive
is available for use with 5.5 (or later) systems; however, it cannot be
used for LDEV 1, the boot disk.
- "New Disk Devices Supported" describes the new 4 GB and 9 GB disk drives
that are now supported.
- "High Availability Disk Array (Nike)" describes the support for 9 GB and
18 GB disk drives.
- "A3716A 144 GB DDS-3 Autoloader for MPE/iX" gives an overview of the
A3716A high-speed, high-capacity tape product combined with an
autoloader.
- "EMC Symmetrix Disk Arrays" overviews the SYM4 version of the EMC
Symmetrix Disk Array supported starting with Express 3 for 5.5.
Chapter 9, Year 2000 Enhancements

- "VPLUS Enhancements for Turn-of-Century" describes enhancements in
B.06.07 version of VPLUS for the Turn-of-century enhancement. Refer to

- "Predictive" announces that Predictive is year 2000 safe.
- "HP MPE/iX Databases" describes the readiness of ALLBASE/SQL, IMAGE/SQL,
and TurboIMAGE/XL to handle the year 2000.
- "HP Stage/iX" announces that HP Stage/iX is Y2K compliant.
- "Documentation Changes for MPE/iX" provides changes to existing
documents.
- "RPG/iX 4-Digit Year Enhancements" describes the support for predefined
fields that return a 4-digit year.
Chapter 10, Technical Articles
- "QUERY/iX Enhancements" describes the enhancements made to QUERY to
utilize the new B-tree index features in TurboIMAGE/XL.
- "COBOL II/iX Enhancements" describes the new COBOL II/iX
enhancements.
- "IMAGE/SQL with TurboIMAGE/XL Enhancements" explains the highlights of
this release of IMAGE/SQL and reviews these features of the previous
release: B-Tree indices, and ODBCLink/SE. Additional manuals are now
bundled with IMAGE/SQL. Describes the new IMAGE/SQL dynamic dataset
expansion for master datasets (MDX). Describes the highlights of this
release of TurboIMAGE/XL, B-Tree indices and Scalability. Reviews a
problem with IMAGE/SQL dynamic dataset expansion for detail datasets
(DDX).
- "New Features in ALLBASE/SQL Version G3" describes the new string
functions in version G3 and reviews the major enhancements in version
G2: new authorities for security and year 2000 compatibility. It gives
an overview of the CAST function that was added in the G1.15 release of
ALLBASE/SQL. Describes the process of moving pseudo-mapped files to
mapped files before upgrading ALLBASE/SQL to G3.
- "Year 2000 and Other Enhancements in VPLUS" describes enhancements in
B.06.07 version of VPLUS for the following functionality:
turn-of-century enhancement, ability to define default Field Type and
Data Type for a form, ability to define more than 52 single character
fields per Form, new intrinsics to get and set Save Field values
programmatically, and the ability to renumber a Form with interactive
FORMSPEC.
- "CI Enhancements" describes POSIX filenames, COPY command
enhancements, and new Evaluator functions. It also reviews the CI
Enhancements in C.55.03. It describes the new functionality added to the
CI software to improve the ease of use and overall functionality of
these commands: LISTF,LISTFILE, PAUSE, PRINT, FLABELINFO and
FINFO(), and INPUT. There are two new variables:
HPLASTSPID and HPSPOOLID.
- "The REMSH Client Functionality" gives more technical information on the
REMSH Client that allows a user to connect to the remote system, execute
a command on that remote system, and see the results of that
command.
- "Transaction Manager" discusses these new features: System Log
Expansion, Transaction Copy-Forward, and Checkpoint Improvement.
- "New Features of DTS/TIO Subsystem" describes the new functionality that
was added in release 6.0 and reviews the functionality in release
C.55.02. These enhancements significantly increase the number of DTCs,
supported modem types, and parity setting for HP 3000 machines.
- "Introducing ODBCLink/SE" describes the product replacing HP PC/API for
ALLBASE/SQL links.
- "Introducing Samba/iX" provides more technical detail on Samba/iX.
- "Developer's Kit for Java/iX" provides more information on Java for
MPE/iX.
- "Hewlett-Packard NetWorker ClientPak for MPE/iX" gives more technical
information the Hewlett-Packard Legato NetWorker ClientPak.
- "DNS BIND/iX and Syslog/iX" describes the functionality of DNS BIND/iX
and Syslog/iX. This article includes the available utilities and
descriptions of how to run both.
Chapter 11, Product Release History
This chapter adds product information for MPE/iX Release 6.0 and updates the
termination dates in the Supported System Release Matrix table.
Chapter 12, Catalog of User Documentation
This chapter provides two types of manual listings:
- A listing of all new or updated manuals by the time of the MPE/iX 6.0
Release.
- A current listing of the MPE/iX manuals grouped by collections.
