TRANSACT/XL by Perry Mizota, Commercial Systems Division Increased Performance for Transact Applications TRANSACT/XL features a Native Mode compiler, in addition to the high-level programming language and interpreter associated with TRANSACT/V. Transact applications can now run in Native Mode on Series 900 systems. Unlike interpreted statements, compiled Transact statements provide performance comparable to that of traditional third generation languages, like COBOL and Pascal. Easy Migration for Existing Applications The high-level programming language and interpreter portions of TRANSACT/XL run in Compatibility Mode and are almost identical to those of TRANSACT/V. This provides for the migration of existing TRANSACT/V applications to an MPE XL based system with few, if any, modifications to source code. Necessary modifications are explained in detail in the TRANSACT/XL Migration Guide (P/N 32247-60004). For new Transact applications, development and testing of the application can be performed in Compatibility Mode, and compilation and execution of the application can be performed in Native Mode. Availability TRANSACT/XL is available on all Series 900 HP 3000 computer systems.
