Improved Recovery of APPC SUBSYSTEM/XL
by Ron Lawson--Information Networks Division
The APPC subsystem is enhanced and provides better recovery of Logical
Units (LUs). Previously, only LUs that were involved in ACTIVE LU-to-LU
sessions with a host would recover after certain events, such as a link
failure. LUs that were in a PENDING state waiting for activation by the
host would not recover.
The set of events that are considered recoverable now includes link
failures and host-initiated session deactivation (unbinds). When such an
event is recognized, each LU will stop any active conversation,
terminate, then restart. This will allow the APPC subsystem to remain
active.
One example of how this functionality is useful is when the HP 3000 is
configured to wait for a phone call from the host to conduct an LU 6.2
conversation. After the conversation is completed, the host "hangs up,"
causing a perceived link failure. Now instead of terminating, the APPC
subsystem will recover and wait for another conversation to begin.
