COMMUNICATOR 3000/XL: XL REL. 2.2 (A.41.00)
ThinLAN 3000/XL Link Enhancement
by Bryan Wing--Information Networks Division
This version of the ThinLAN 3000/XL Link product enhancements provide the
ability to run IEEE802.3 and defacto standard Ethernet concurrently over
a single LAN. This functionality is provided transparently by dynamically
determining the transmission protocol to be used on a per destination
basis. This software release allows customers with existing ThinLAN
3000/XL Link hardware to communicate to Ethernet nodes on the LAN.
Ethernet can be configured via NMMGR using guided configuration or
standard configuration. The default configuration is for IEEE802.3
communication only. If Ethernet is configured, both IEEE802.3
communication and Ethernet communication will be enabled.
HP 3000 customers have been limited in the ways that they could
communicate to Ethernet LAN nodes. Now, with the use of the HP ARPA File
Transfer Protocol (HP36957A) and this release of ThinLAN 3000/XL Link,
this strategic limitation will be eliminated.
