COMMUNICATOR 3000/XL XL RELEASE 2.1

Introducing BULDACCT Utility

by Anil Sharma
Commercial Systems Division

The BULDACCT utility has been designed to help users in moving their
directory structures across volume sets or systems.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

BULDACCT.PUB.SYS is designed to allow MPE XL users to take a "snapshot"
of their directory accounting structure and recreate it on a new system.
The output files of this utility are job streams that can regenerate the
directory structure on a tapeless environment where ":restore
;;directory" cannot be used.

This utility also includes functionality to migrate a set of accounts
from one volume set to another. This account migration capability can be
extremely useful with the Mirrored Disk (HP30349A) product since the
Mirror Disk product does not allow the system volume set to be mirrored,
resulting in a need to migrate certain accounts from the system volume
set to a user volume set.

PRODUCT ENVIRONMENT

The BULDACCT utility will execute only on the MPE XL releases while the
job files created by this utility can be used on either MPE V/E or MPE XL

USER INTERFACE

The tasks of dumping system directory accounting structures or migration
of a set of accounts from one volume set to another, can be accomplished
by a sequence of CI commands. The BULDACCT utility creates two job
scripts, which contain formatted account, group, user and UDC accounting
information.

The utility provides a number of options to tailor the directory
migration according to the user needs. These options allow the user to
selectively choose a list of accounts and set the level of migration to
group or account level. A simple ":run buldacct" displays a list of
options with brief explanations. Detailed help text can be seen by
selecting the help option.
