HP Resource Sharing for MPE/iX
Configuring MPE for Resource Sharing
Resource Sharing lets PCs use HP 3000 shared discs, printers, and
plotters. The Resource Sharing installation process creates the
necessary MPE accounting structures to support the Resource Sharing
logon.
After initial installation, whenever you configure new shared resources
into your network, you must first create the appropriate MPE structures.
See your MPE manuals for procedures.
* If the default Resource Sharing logon is not suitable, create the
MPE user, group, and account where you want all Resource Sharing
users to log on.
All Resource Sharing users are connected to the HP 3000 under one
common session with the default logon RESSHR,PCUSER.SYS,PPC. The
logon user, group, and account, and session name can be changed
through RESMGR.
Give the logon user default capabilities (IA, BA, SF, and ND). If
any PC users need shared discs on nonsystem volume sets, also give
the logon user UV capability.
Logon UDCs for the PCUSER.SYS user are not supported.
* Each shared disc is associated with one MPE group. Create one MPE
group for each new shared disc.
Do not create a shared disc in the PUB group of the SYS account,
or any group in the HPOFFICE account.
* Add each new shared printer or plotter to the MPE I/O
configuration.
In order to share a new printer or plotter, first configure it in
MPE. Then you can identify it for Resource Sharing by its MPE LDEV
number or device class.
* Give an MPE logon with System Manager (SM) and Node Manager (NM)
capabilities to anyone who administers Resource Sharing through
the Resource Manager Utility (RESMGR) advanced functions.
SM and NM capabilities are required to configure RESMGR to manage
shared printers and plotters.
* Give an MPE logon with System Manager (SM) capabilities to anyone
who manages shared discs across accounts through the Resource
Manager Utility (RESMGR) or the Disc Manager Utility (DISCMGR).
* PC users do not need individual MPE logons to use shared
resources, since all PC users connect to those resources through
the Resource Sharing common session logon.
Once the required MPE structures are set up, use Resource Sharing
utilities to share the HP 3000 resources, as discussed next.
