Information Access Server: Planning and Configuring

Chapter 1 Planning Your Configuration

The planning process involves five information-gathering steps:

   * The primary DBA or secondary DBA identifies PC users and their
data needs on Worksheet 1 (PC Data Requirements).

   * The primary DBA or secondary DBA uses the information from
Worksheet 1 to fill out Worksheet 2 (Access Group Definition),
place the PC users into access groups, create user definitions,
and list the configured tables that the group needs to access.

   * The primary DBA or secondary DBAs can use the information from
Worksheets 1 and 2 to fill out Worksheet 3 (View Table
Definition). This worksheet will help you determine how your view
tables should be configured, and by whom (the primary DBA or one
       of the secondary DBAs).

   * The primary DBA analyzes the worksheets to decide whether to
increase or decrease the capacities of any of the datasets in the
       data dictionary.

   * The primary DBA and the System Manager discuss the results of the
analysis to assess Access Server's impact on system resources and
       system configuration

Information from the worksheets is used as a guide while you enter the
information in the Administration Utility.

Samples of completed worksheets appear as part of the tutorial in the
Information Access Server: Learning the Administrator Utility manual.

You'll find blank worksheets in Appendix A of this manual, in a form
suitable for photocopying. Be sure not to write directly on the
worksheet originals.
