D : Deleting a User Definition
Now, assume that the user TUTORIAL is no longer a valid user. (You
might, for example, want to rename this user.) Here's how to delete a
user definition from the data dictionary.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| | |
| What You Do | What Happens |
| | |
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| | |
| D-1. Choose: | The Delete User screen appears. |
| | |
| Delete f3 | (You could have reached this screen |
| User | directly from any other menu by typing DU |
| | in a Go to screen field.) |
| | |
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| | |
| D-2. Type TUTORIAL in the User field. | The user name uniquely identifies the user |
| | you want to delete. |
| Make sure this is the one you want to | |
| delete because you will not be asked to | |
| confirm the deletion. | |
| | |
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| | |
| D-3. Press Enter. | Pressing Enter deletes the user definition. |
| | The screen clears. |
| | |
| (Since you have deleted the user TUTORIAL, | |
| the password change you just made for this | |
| user in Step C-3 will not take effect.) | |
| | |
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE Deleting a user is straightforward because user names are not part
of any other definition.
However, before you delete a definition that is used to derive
another definition, you must be aware of the effect on those
dependencies. (When you delete such an entity, a screen message
will alert you to the dependencies and ask you to confirm the
delete.)
For example, deleting a database also deletes all tables associated
with it, including IMAGE tables and view tables that draw any of
their data from the deleted database. Deleting an access group may
create a public table if the deleted access group is the only one
assigned to that table.
The "Deleting" sections in the Information Access Server: Database
Administration manual discuss the possible dependencies and
recommend actions that will preserve dependent entities or
security.

| D-4. Choose: | The User Menu reappears. |

| | |
| If you wanted to re-add this user with a | |
| new name, you could do so now by choosing | |
| Add User f1. However, you're finished | |
| with this lesson's tasks. | |
