Q-7.  What types of IMAGE data require conversion and what are the

You can specify for these data types the number of digits to the right of
the decimal point, and conversion to a real number (R) or to a character
string (C). (Lesson 2:F) The default for zoned is C. The default for
packed is R. The default for 4-word integers (I4 and J4) is R. The
default for 2-word integers (I1 or I2) is a blank.  (Only I4 and J4 need
conversion.)
