Information Access Server: Learning the Administrator Utility

C : Configuration Sequence

Configuration is the process of telling Access Server what information
may be accessed through Access PC, along with appropriate limitations and
restrictions. A software tool called the Administrator Utility is used
for this purpose.

We recommend that you follow this sequence when performing a
configuration:

1. Configure Remote HP 3000 Systems. If you have Remote HP 3000s one
node away from the host HP 3000. (This step is not covered in
this tutorial.)

2. Configure Data Sources. Tell Access Server the names of the IMAGE
databases and files containing the desired information.

3. Configure Tables. Tell Access Server the names of tables and
which data items they contain. First configure IMAGE tables and
file tables, then view tables.

4. Configure Access Groups. Tell Access Server the names of the
access groups.

5. Configure Users. Tell Access Server who your users are and put
them in an access group. (Each user belongs to one and only one
access group.)

6. Configure Data Security. Tell Access Server which access groups
are assigned to the configured tables and to particular items
within those tables.

The rest of this lesson follows this configuration sequence.

The rest of this lesson guides you through a basic
configuration. The instructions provide the data
you need. Since this is a basic configuration, you
will be using default values in nearly all cases.

From this point on, you'll need the use of a
terminal or a PC that has a terminal emulator such
as AdvanceLink.

We recommend that you work through to the end of
this lesson in one block, so be sure to allow
enough time to finish (at least an hour).

If absolutely necessary, stop between lettered
exercises. If you have to leave the Administrator
Utility between exercises, you'll need to repeat
Lesson 2:D to re-enter the utility before
proceeding to the next exercise. Use the shortcut
method explained in Lesson 2:F, to go directly
from the Main Menu to the screen you need.
