Entering the Administrator Utility [ Information Access Server: Database Administration ] MPE/iX 5.0 Documentation
Information Access Server: Database Administration
Entering the Administrator Utility
The first thing you do to get into the workings of the Administrator
Utility is to pass through the Entry screen to the Main Menu, and from
there to whichever screens you need. (The entry path and all the screens
are diagrammed in the "Administrator Utility Screen Map" earlier in this
chapter.)
Entry Screen
The Entry screen appears when you run the Administrator Utility normally
(see "Running the Administrator Utility", above). This screen provides
the first level of security for Access Server by preventing unauthorized
users from gaining access to the Administrator Utility.
To pass through the Entry screen, a user must know:
* A valid primary or secondary DBA user name
* That user's password, as defined in the Information Access data
dictionary
The Entry screen is shown on the next page. Table 2-1 describes the
Entry screen fields.

Main Menu
The Administrator Utility Main Menu appears when you successfully pass
through the Entry screen.
The Main Menu sits above (and allows access to) all other menus and
screens in the Administrator Utility. These are divided into five groups
of menus and screens. You choose which group to go to depending on what
task you want to perform.
The Main Menu looks like this:

To Enter the Administrator Utility:.
1. Run ADMIN by typing the UDC ADMIN at the MPE prompt.
If you are not using the UDC file provided with Access Server,
type the full RUN command:
:RUN ADMIN.PPC.SYS
_________________________________________________________________
NOTE It is not necessary to be logged onto the HP 3000 as
MGR.HPOFFICE to run the Administrator Utility. You can be
logged on as any valid HP 3000 user who can run the program
and acccess the necessary data sources.
_________________________________________________________________
2. Type the DBA's user name in the User field and the DBA's password
in the User Password field.
_________________________________________________________________
NOTE While the user name may be typed in any combination of
uppercase and lowercase letters, the DBA's password must be
typed exactly as defined in the data dictionary.
_________________________________________________________________
3. To gain entry, press Enter.
If your user name and password are valid, the Main Menu appears
and you can choose a task to perform.
If your attempt fails, an error message appears and you are denied
entry into the Administrator Utility. Try again with the correct
name and password.
The Main Menu sits atop all other screens in the Administrator Utility.
From this screen, you can go in one of five major directions: the
Configuration screens, the System Status screens, the Report screens, the
Synchronization screens, or the Environment Configuration screens. (For
a list of all menus and screens, see the "Administrator Utility Screen
Map" at the beginning of this chapter.)
You find your way to these screens either by following the menu path or
by entering the short name of the screen in the Go to screen field at the
Main Menu (or any other menu). (For a complete discussion of how to get
to screens, see "How to Use the Screens" earlier in this chapter.)
