Jobs and Job Files
Like command files, job files free you from having to perform the same
sequence of tasks over and over again.
You might think of a running a job as a little like delegating your work
to someone else who goes off into another room and works quietly, without
supervision, until the work is finished. If you are confident about the
work that this other person will do--about the job that you design--the
savings in time and effort on your part can be considerable.
At the same time, jobs offer advantages--and disadvantages--over using a
command file.
* The first advantage of using jobs is that they can save you time
when you need to perform a series of tasks that is complex or
time-consuming.
* The second advantage of using jobs is that you can instruct the
computer to execute the job at a later time, perhaps after you
have gone home for the day.
* The chief disadvantage of using jobs is that it takes a little
more time and effort to create the job.
When an error--or something unexpected--occurs in a job, it can
take a little time to determine exactly why something went amiss.
