Setting Up and Maintaining Your System The Installation Guide

Recovering Factory Supplied Software and I/O Configurations

If your Hewlett-Packard-supplied software was factory loaded onto the
internal disk of your system, a tape containing a copy of the software
was also supplied with your system. This tape, referred to as a factory
preload tape (FPT) provides you with a complete system backup prior to
beginning the installation process. This tape has been customized to
your order and contains system files, store files, and default
configuration files.

One of the final installation steps provided in Chapter 5 "Creating a
System Recovery Tape," is to generate a system recovery tape reflecting
changes resulting from the installation and configuration process.
Whenever possible, this newly generated recovery tape should be used in
place of the factory preload tape (FPT) for recovery purposes.

This chapter describes the steps necessary to recover the HP 3000 Series
9X7LX system using the factory preload tape. This entire process takes
approximately 2 to 3 hours, depending on the number of software
applications to be installed.
