Use it after you have set up your system with the Setting Up and Maintaining Your System guide, which is the installation guide. Also, if you are new to the HP 3000 Series 9X7LX, you may want to read about the system before you do much with it. If so, read Understanding Your System, which is a concept guide. The instructions in this user's guide assist you in performing tasks that you need to manage your system and your data files. The early chapters give instructions on how to use the menu-driven screens of HP Easytime/iX. HP Easytime/iX is a software tool that allows you to manage your system from easy-to-use screens. You will be able to perform most of the tasks for managing your system from the HP Easytime/iX screens. Another three chapters in this user's guide explain how to communicate directly with the system by using MPE/iX commands. Any task that you can do with HP Easytime/iX you can also do with the MPE/iX commands. You can also use the MPE/iX commands to perform tasks that you cannot do with HP Easytime/iX. Read chapter 1, "Introducing Your System", for a more complete description of the user's guide. Introducing the HP 3000 Series 9X7LX Hewlett-Packard's HP 3000 Series 9X7LX computer system for the multiuser environment combines office computing with mainframe power. The system is designed to be used in a standard office setting without the stringent environmental controls of the typical computer room. Its compact size accommodates a number of office configurations. Typically, the system consists of the following components: * the main computer that fits comfortably alongside a desk or table * the system console connected to the computer for system activities

* an optional cabinet containing additional disk and tape drives for extra data storage * the data communication and terminal controller, also called the DTC, that enables you to connect multiple terminals and printers to the system * terminals or PCs set up on each user's desktop and connected to the DTC * various styles of printers conveniently located for easy access by several users
