HP Micro Focus COBOL/iX Implementation Notes

Animator

Configuration

You do not need to change any configuration information to run the
animator. You can change the default information if you need to. The
COBOL/HP-UX Operating Guide has more information on how to do that.

Animator Documentation

The COBOL/HP-UX Operating Guide is generic to the Micro Focus COBOL/2
products. Therefore, all references in the manual are to the Micro Focus
COBOL/2 products rather than to the HP Micro Focus COBOL/iX products.
References to Micro Focus COBOL/2 refer to HP Micro Focus COBOL/iX. The
manual refers to UNIX rather than to MPE/iX and all information
concerning UNIX applies to MPE/iX as well.

Animator Notes

   * To animate code which has been compiled on versions of Micro Focus
COBOL before Version 3.0, you will need to recompile the source
program first under this HP Micro Focus COBOL/iX system.

   * When you animate a program which has either been compiled with the
RM directive or the alternate file status table has been selected
at run-time, and in both cases no file status bytes have been
defined, a run-time system error returned as a result of a file
I-O error will be the Micro Focus error. If you wish to determine
the status error applicable to the directives you have set, you
must use the Query command on the file in which the error occurred
to obtain the file status returned.

   * If you animate an ACCEPT statement which is terminated by an
ESCAPE, the ACCEPT will be ignored.

   * If you animate a program that has READ statements that read from
stdin, you will not be prompted for input when those READ
statements execute. You can enter the input by keying it in and
       terminating it with RETURN.

   * When using the Go or Zoom command, use Control-Y instead of the
escape key to break out of Go or Zoom mode.

   * Variable speed in the go command is not supported.
