HP Predictive Support CE Guide For HP 3000 Series 900
Datacomm Troubleshooting Procedure No. 3
Probable Cause of File Transfer Failure: The modem being reached is not
the HP Response Center system modem; speed sensing has failed; or the HP
Response Center system is temporarily unavailable.
1. Run psconfig and check the HP Response Center phone number.
_________________________________________________________________
NOTE Number must have the proper preceding characters. See
Datacomm Troubleshooting Procedure No. 2, Step 1.

2. If the number is correct and the modem is in autodial mode:
a. Wait approximately one hour.
b. Initiate a transfer normal.
If this problem occurs consistently whenever HP Predictive Support
is run, change the run schedule to a different time of day.
3. If the number is correct and the modem is in manual dial mode,
make sure the modem is set to the proper speed. (See the console
message requesting the operator to dial the modem.)
_________________________________________________________________
NOTE Remember that if AUTOSELECT and MANUAL have been selected on
the psconfig Transfer Information menu, HP Predictive
Support attempts to dial the modem at 2400 baud.
_________________________________________________________________
a. If the speed is correct:
i. Wait approximately one hour.
ii. Initiate a transfer normal.
b. If the speed is incorrect, correct it and initiate a
transfer normal.
4. If the number being dialed is not correct:
a. Correct the number.

The continued occurrence of speed sensing, logon string, and
timeout/noise line errors can indicate a bad phone line or modem.
