HP Predictive Support CE Guide For HP 3000 Series 900

HP 50759A

This modem is supported only in Configuration Type 1 and Configuration
Type 2.

   * Switches: There are two sets of switches on the underside of the
HP 50759A modem. For explanatory purposes, these sets of switches
have been arbitrarily named as follows:
          *   S (set of 8 switches)
          *   X (set of 4 switches)

Table C-3 lists the HP 50759A switch settings for each
configuration type and the LAN console card.
       [REV BEG]

   * Remote console enabling: If the modem has been upgraded, it does
not have to be powered off and on in order to enable the remote
       console.

If the modem has not been upgraded, it must be powered off to
enable the remote console in Configuration Type 2.[REV END]

Identify an Upgraded Modem
[REV BEG]

Upgraded HP 50759A modems are identified by a sticker on the underside of
the modem. If a sticker is missing, the modem probably has not been
upgraded. (Modems upgraded by the manufacturer will have a serial number
that is greater than 1101348.)

If you are upgrading this modem at the time you install HP Predictive
Support, follow the instructions in the upgrade kit (Part Number
50759-60001) and be sure to affix the sticker so that this modem can be
checked easily in the future.

If you are not upgrading this modem at the time of your installation
visit, use the alternate switch settings if the modem will be used in
autodial mode (Configuration Type 2).[REV END]

Prepare the Modem

Make sure that the internal DSR jumper is set to "DSR follows OH." Also,

       [REV BEG]

   * The baud rate information presented in the discussion of the HP
37212B also applies to the HP 50759A.

   * For specific information on removing the cover of the HP 50759A
modem, as well as the location of the DSR jumper, refer to the
       modem's user manual.[REV END]

Set the Options

The switches on the HP 50759A can be set to either of two positions: UP
or DOWN (depressed). Table C-3 lists the switch settings.
