HP Predictive Support CE Guide For HP 3000 Series 900

Phase 8: Checking the Datacomm Port Configuration

The modem must be attached to a port on a DTC accessible by the system,
or to a port on a LAN console card on a Series 9X7 system. The DTC may
be Host-based or PC-based. Use NMMGR to check the datacomm port
configuration if the DTC is Host-based or if using a LAN console port.
Use NMMGR and OPENVIEW if the DTC is PC-based. For detailed instructions
on running NMMGR to configure the datacomm port, refer to Appendix D,
"Configuring the Datacomm Port."

Host-Based DTC

To verify the datacomm port configuration for a Host-based DTC,

   1. Run NMMGR and verify the DTS profile assigned to the modem DTC
port (detailed instructions on NMMGR are in Appendix D). The DTS
profile must meet these requirements for HP Predictive Support:
              Terminal Type: 10
              Line Speed: Any
              Record Width (in Bytes): 80
Type of Modem attached: 1 (if Configuration Type 1 or 2 is
being used) or 0 (if Configuration Type 3 is being used)
              Parity: Any
              Speed/Parity Sensing Enabled?: Y
Allow :HELLO Logon?: Y (or N, to prevent dialin if you are
using the "two modem" solution to the security issue)
              Reset HP Terminal?: N

          * If the DTS profile meets HP Predictive Support
requirements, go to Chapter 3, Phase 1.

          * If the DTS profile does not meet HP Predictive Support
              requirements, go to Step 2.

   2. Change the DTS profile (applies only if the DTS profile currently
assigned to the port does not meet requirements).

          a. Create or select a new DTS profile through NMMGR.

          b. Assign the newly created or selected DTS profile to the DTC
              port through NMMGR.

          c. Validate the change through NMMGR.

          d. Cross-validate the change through SYSGEN.

   3. Go to Chapter 3, Phase 1.

PC-Based DTC

To verify the datacomm port configuration for a PC-based DTC,

   1. Run NMMGR and verify that the DTS profile assigned to the modem
DTC port meets the following requirements (detailed instructions
on running NMMGR are in Appendix D):
              Terminal Type: 10
              Record Width (in Bytes): 80
              Modem attached: Y
Allow :HELLO Logon?: Y (or N to prevent dialin, if you are
using the "two modem" solution to the security issue)

          * If the DTS profile meets HP Predictive Support
requirements, skip Step 2 and go to Step 3.

          * If the DTS profile does not meet HP Predictive Support
              requirements, go to Step 2.

   2. Change the DTS profile (applies only if the DTS profile currently
assigned to the port does not meet requirements):
          a. Create or select a new DTS profile through NMMGR.
          b. Assign the newly created or selected DTS profile to the DTC
              port through NMMGR.
          c. Validate the change through NMMGR.
          d. Cross-validate the change through SYSGEN.
          e. Go to Step 3, below. DO NOT restart the system at this
              time.

   3. Go to OPENVIEW and ensure the "Set Parameters" screen meets the
following HP Predictive Support requirements: (NOTE: To avoid a
DTC restart, make any changes through the "Set Parameters" screen.
Do not use the "Configure" screen option at the "Control" menu.)

          * Line Speed (bps): Should match the modem (for example,
              2400)

          *   Parity:  Any

          * Attached Device: US Modem (if Configuration Type 1 or 2 is
being used) or Terminal (if Configuration Type 3 is being
              used)

          * Modem Behavior: Standard DCE (if Configuration Type 1 or 2
is being used) or None (if Configuration Type 3 is being
              used)

          *   Auto Speed/Parity Sensing:  X (Field must have "X"
              indicating enabled)

          * Enable Port: X (Field must have "X", indicating enabled)

          * Enable Automatic Connection. (Field must be set to OFF. If
it is not, the HP Predictive Support datacomm software
cannot dial out from the modem.)

          * Destination Node Name: Required for dialin if switching is
not enabled on the port. Enter the node name of the Host
system to which dialin users should be connected. Example:
              system1.cs.hp

All other fields may have any value. Be sure to save the
       configuration.

   4. Go to Chapter 3, Phase 1. Note that a DTC restart is required if
OPENVIEW has been changed using the "Configure" screen. Perform a
DTC restart after the system restart.

LAN console Card

To verify the datacomm port configuration for a LAN console card:

   1. Run NMMGR from manager.sys. The first screen is the Open
       Configuration/Directory File screen.

   2. Press f1, Open Config to reach the Main screen.

   3. Press f1, DTS to reach the Host Configuration screen.

   4. Press f4, Go To UserPort to reach the HP Support Modem screen.

   5. Modify the fields on the screen as shown:

              Logical Device: 21

Line Speed: 2400 (or as appropriate)

              Modem: 1 [US Modem]

              Parity: None

   6. Press f6, Save Data.

   7. Exit NMMGR by returning through the screens, or by typing Exit at
       the command line.
