HP LaserRX/MPE Software Update Notice

Description of Changes 

The Toolbar 

Several new buttons and two list boxes now appear on a new Toolbar at the
top portion of the main HP LaserRX/MPE window.  With the Toolbar, you no
longer have to open menus to perform these tasks:

   *   opening a local logfile

   *   running a stored macro

   *   switching a graph's background color between black or white

   *   switching a graph's scaling between linear or logarithmic

   *   switching a graph's lines between solid or dashed

   *   printing a graph

   *   exporting data from a graph window to local disk files

   *   enabling the context sensitive Help pointer

File Menu Changes 

New Printer Setup Command.   

You can now access the Windows printer setup program from within HP
LaserRX/MPE. Now it is easy to print graphs to different printers or
plotters without leaving HP LaserRX/MPE. You can even send each graph to
a different printer if you like.

About Command Moved.   

The About command has been moved from the File menu to the Help menu to
be consistent with the Windows 3.1 style.

Help Changes 

HP LaserRX/MPE product Help has been reworked to take advantage of the
Windows 3.1 Help system.  You now have several ways to locate the
information you need.  Choose one of the following commands from the Help
menu:

Contents.   

Choose this command to get a high-level view of the types of topics
available to you in HP LaserRX/MPE Help.

Search for Help on....   

To quickly locate Help topics about a particular subject, use this
option.

Screen/Menu Help.   

This option turns the normal pointer from an arrow to a question-mark
pointer.  Move the question-mark pointer to items on the HP LaserRX/MPE
screen you have questions about, then click.  This feature is also
activated by the Help Button on the Toolbar.

Using Windows Help.   

Choose this command if you need basic help understanding how Windows Help
works.

What's New in This Release.   

This option provides a shortcut to a topic that explains the new and
changed features in this version of the HP LaserRX/MPE software.

About HP LaserRX/MPE.   

Use this option to check the version of HP LaserRX/MPE you have
installed.

LAN Connection Changes 

The addition of WSOCKETS and WINSOCK connection options provides a more
robust and industry standard connection protocol to HP LaserRX/MPE. If
you are already using WINSOCK protocol in your Windows 3.1 environment,
HP LaserRX/MPE can use the same connection, saving valuable memory.

When you select the Connect LAN command from the File menu, or the LAN
Connect command from the Configure menu, you will see a submenu with
these options:

NS Services           Hewlett-Packard NetIPC Sockets(MPE V and MPE/iX)

HP Sockets            Hewlett-Packard Windows Sockets (WSOCKETS.DLL)
                      (MPE/iX only)

Windows Sockets       Microsoft Windows Sockets (WINSOCK.DLL) (MPE/iX
                      only)
