New Product and Enhancements In This NMMGR Screens Reference Manual The following is a list of new network product and major enhancements for MPE/iX Release 5.0. New Product * Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) 3000/iX Network Link (J2245A) provides HP 3000 Series 900 HP-IB systems with a fiber optic single-attach station (SAS) connection to the 100 Mb/s dual counter-rotating ring network through a third-party FDDI concentrator meeting the ISO 9314 FDDI standards. One FDDI link is supported per system. Product Enhancements * Increased support of X.25 SVC paths, from 1024 to 2048. * Additional LAN support added to allow up to two active LAN's per system. This functionality applies to 802.3 and has no effect on FDDI or Token Ring. * Increased number of supported phone numbers per NI Router Mapping, from 256 to 1024. Documentation Map The following documentation map is intended to be a general guideline to the manuals containing information related to the product described in this manual. You may need information from one or all the manuals listed here.

Preface This manual documents functionality for the MPE/iX 5.0 release, as well as later releases for HP 3000 Series 900 systems. This reference manual assumes that you are familiar with your network topology. NMMGR is an interface used to configure Local Area Networks (LANs), point-to-point (router) networks, token ring networks, FDDI, and X.25 networks. The NMMGR screens described in this manual are accompanied by parameter descriptions that give you ideas on which values are appropriate for your network. Ultimately it is up to you to decide which values to supply depending on how the network is used and maintained. Special Note MPE/iX, Multiprogramming Executive with Integrated POSIX, is the latest in a series of forward-compatible operating systems for the HP 3000 line of computers. In HP documentation and in talking with HP 3000 users, you will encounter references to MPE XL, the direct predecessor of MPE/iX. MPE/iX is a superset of MPE XL. All programs written for MPE XL will run without change under MPE/iX. You can continue to use MPE XL system documentation, although it may not refer to features added to the operating system to support POSIX (for example, hierarchical directories). Finally, you may encounter references to MPE V, which is the operating system for HP 3000s, not based on the PA-RISC architecture. MPE V software can be run on the PA-RISC (Series 900) HP 3000s in what is known as compatibility mode. Helpful Manuals This manual is intended as a reference for those who need detailed information about NS3000/iX configuration screens and their fields. Not all parts of the NMMGR screens set are described in this manual. The following paragraphs describe where to find information about other aspects of NMMGR and network configuration. The planning you should do before attempting to configure a network is discussed in the HP 3000/iX Network Planning and Configuration Guide (36922-90033). An introduction to the generic use of the NMMGR utility, including discussions of the first levels of selection menus and of the utility screen branch, can be found in Using the Node Management Services (NMS) Utilities (32022-90041). The NMMGR screens that are associated with configuring the terminal, printer, and other serial device connections made through the Datacommunications and Terminal Controller (DTC) are described in Configuring Systems for Terminals, Printers, and Other Serial Devices (32022-61000). Related Publications * HP 3000/iX Network Planning and Configuration Guide(36922-90033) provides information for planning your network and also provides step-by-step instructions for using guided configuration to configure network links. Additional manuals that may be of interest when working with the NS3000/iX network services and link products are listed below: * Using the Node Management Services (NMS) Utilities (32022-90041) * NS3000/iX Operations and Maintenance Reference Manual (36922-90035) * NS3000/iX Error Messages Reference Manual (36923-90021) * Using NS3000/iX Network Services (36920-90008) * NetIPC 3000/XL Programmer's Reference Manual (36920-61005)
