HP DeskManager Customization

Field Definitions

The following field definitions used during editing are as follows:

Keyset number

This field is used for descriptive or documentation purposes only but
should be set to the record's actual physical number in the file (which
can be seen at the bottom of the form).

Keyset description

This field can be used to describe where this particular key is shown.

Shown flag

If this is set to "N" then the keyset will not be displayed. This can be
used where no change of function keys is required as the user moves
environment. This is a way of can be de-activating a keyset without it
actually being physically deleted from the file. You can use this to
prevent HP Desk from displaying unwanted function keys for improving user
perceived performance.

Function key label

This is the field in which the function key label is defined. Note it is
not possible to alter the settings of function key f7.

Definition

This defines the command that the function key will execute when it is
pressed. For example hitting a particular function key might execute a
particular HP Desk command.

Special key

This field defines an extra or alternative operation to be done, as
follows:

   Number | Operation
             |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
             |
space | Send the command with a carriage return
             |
0 | Display previous keyset
             |
1 | No carriage return is executed (a space is sent)
             |
4 | Do not echo the command
             |
8 | Display the keyset record defined in the next field
             |

Next

If the Special Key field has been set to "8", this will identify which
keyset will be displayed next. If the keyset does not exist, then the
function key definitions will not be changed. This feature can be used
if the user wants to define more than 7 keys for an environment, as for
example in the Calendar/Dairy area. If there is a "0" in this field then
the user will be returned to his previous set of keys. It is up to you
to provide access to other relevant keysets. You may want to provide 2
keys (Next Keys, Previous Keys) or to loop round a set of keys with just
a single More Keys or Other Keys label. Note that a Previous Keys label
should be defined with the Special Keys field assigned a value of zero.
This is because the current keyset may be reached as the Next Keys from
more than one keyset. The Special Key value of zero tells HP Desk to
display the set that was previously displayed.
