Closing DownHP Desk
Before you shut down the HP 3000, for system maintenance perhaps, you
must close down HP Desk in an orderly manner.

How to shut down HP Desk:

1. If you are running either NewWave Mail or AdvanceMail on
your system, warn all of your PC users that HP Desk is
about to close down and ensure that they have logged
off.

2. Use the MAILUSERABORT command to log off any HP Desk
users.

3. Use the MAILSHUTDOWN command to shut down all HP Desk
processes, including the Supervisor.

There are operator commands which allow you to shut down particular parts
of HP Desk. For example, the MAILROOMOFF command just shuts down the
Mailroom. There is a list of operator commands, together with what they
do, in Chapter 20 .
When you use any of the commands which affect the HP Desk databases (for
example MAILMAINT, MAILSTORE, MAILRESTORE, MAILLOAD, MAILUNLOAD), they
run the same program as when you issue a MAILUSERABORT. This warns users
to log off of HP Desk and then aborts their sessions.
NOTE NewWave Mail and AdvanceMail users do not receive any of the
warnings given by the MAILUSERABORT command but their HP Desk
sessions are aborted. This is also true if you use any of the
commands listed above because they all run the same program which
warns users to log off of HP Desk and then aborts their sessions.
Before you use one of these commands, you must ensure that no
AdvanceMail or NewWave Mail users are still logged onto the HP
3000. If any of them are still logged on when their sessions are
terminated, this could result in inconsistencies in their PC
databases which require recovery.
