HP DeskManager Administration

Chapter 12  The HP Desk Configurator 

This chapter shows you how to run the HP Desk Configurator (Mailconfig)
and gives exapmles of the screens that the Configurator displays.

You use the HP Desk Configurator to:

   *   Create Local and Global Databases suitable for your HP Desk
       installation.

   *   Create a Native Database for native (non-USASCII) users.

   *   Expand the size of your HP Desk databases.

   *   Register users and configure their security.

   *   Record information about the local computer and how it
       communicates with other computers in the network.

   *   Record information about scheduling Resources with HP Schedule.
       (HP DeskManagerPLUS only).

To have access to some areas of the Configurator you need to have a given
capability within HP Desk.  These required capabilities are summarized
below:

Capability           User                                                                                                            

System-wide:         MGR.HPOFFICE

HP Desk-wide:        System Administrator

HP Desk-limited:     Local or Network Administrator

The HP Desk Configurator is designed to provide the HP Desk Administrator
with easy access to System, Local and Network information.  Access to
each of these levels of information can be limited to specific
individuals in your organization.  User capability profiles are defined
so that the correct levels of system security are maintained.

HP Desk configuration is the administrative process which enables you to
build your HP Desk Directory of users, and fill the database with
information on how your HP Desk installation will work.

The following diagram shows the major levels and menu screens displayed
by the HP Desk Configurator.  Access to these screens is dependent on
user capabilities.
