Changing Passwords
Database Passwords
The Local and Global Databases are protected by passwords which are held
in an encoded form in a privileged file called MAILRECS.MAILDB.HPOFFICE.
Passwords are really only effective if they are changed on a regular
basis. The passwords can only be changed by a user who logs on as
MGR.HPOFFICE,MAILDB. The way in which HP Desk stores passwords in a
privileged file is covered in Chapter 7 .

1. Log on as MGR.HPOFFICE,MAILDB.

2. Type RUN DBUTIL.PUB.SYS to run the DBUTIL program.

3. At the >> prompt, set the new passwords with the command:

SET LOCAL PASSWORD 63 = newpassword Return
SET GLOBAL PASSWORD 63 = newpassword Return
(and if applicable)
SET NATIVE PASSWORD 63 = newpassword Return

4. Type EXIT to leave DBUTIL.

5. Now that you have changed the passwords, you must record them
in their encoded form in HP Desk using Passedit. Details of
how to do this are in Chapter 15 .

If you do change the passwords on any of the databases or any of the jobs
in the HPOFFICE group, inform the HP Desk Administrators of any machines
who have DS routes configured to your machine. They will have to make
the same changes, otherwise their Master Trucks will not be able to log
onto your system.
When you change a password, you also have to update the privileged file
in which the passwords are recorded. The password which is recorded in
the MAILRECS file for a particular account, group, user, or database must
be the same as the one which is actually set on that account, group, user
or database. The Passedit program is used to change the passwords in
this file (see Chapter 15 for more information). If you change the
password without updating the privileged file, Mailstream (the job
streamer program) will insert the old password into the job line. As
this will not match the new password the process being called will not
run.
