HP Motif/iX System Administrator's Supplement

Terminology 

This section describes the following:

   *   MIT X Window System

   *   X Client Application

MIT X Window System 

The Massachuset Institute of Technology (MIT) X Window System Version 11
is an industry-standard graphical user interface system used on
workstations in a network environment.  The product consists of libraries
and header (include) files that are necessary to develop X client
applications.

X Client Application 

An application that uses the X facility to display a graphical user
interface is called an X client application.

OSF 

The Open Software Foundation is a non-profit, industry supported research
and development organization formed in 1988 to integrate and implement
existing standards and technologies, and where none exist, working with
others to define them.

HP Motif/iX 

HP Motif/iX is the implementation of MIT's X Window System and Open
Software Foundation's OSF/Motif on the HP 3000 family of computers.

MPE/iX 

MPE/iX is the operating system for the 900 Series HP 3000 computers.
MPE/iX manages all system resources, and coordinates the execution of all
programs running on an HP 3000 system.
