HP Motif/iX System Administrator's Supplement

Using the automated mechanism

Once you have built the files described above, you can invoke them

   *   from the command line

   *   from a desktop menu

From the command line

To execute the client on an HP 3000 host called IXMACHINE, enter the
following command line on the HP-UX workstation:
[REV BEG]

     % vt3k -I pizzago IXMACHINE
[REV END]

Upon execution, the vt3k program establishes a connection to an HP 3000
system named IXMACHINE and issues to it the commands stored in the
pizzago file. In this case, the following occur:

   1.  A connection is established.

   2.  A logon is performed.

   3. The host machine is instructed to execute the batch job jpizza.

The -I option instructs vt3k to log off after executing the input file
pizzago.

From a desktop menu

To create a menu entry in the desktop for use with a pointing device
operations, you must add an entry to the configuration file of the window
manager (.mwmrc for mwm) of your server machine. The entry would be
similar to the following:
[REV BEG]

"pizza" f.exec "vt3k -I pizzago IXMACHINE"[REV END]

Remember to restart the window manager so that it reads the new
definition from the resource file and establishes the menu item.
Whenever you choose that menu item and click on it, the pizza application
is executed on the host system.

For more information on how to configure the OSF/Motif Window Manager
(mwm), refer to Using the X Window System (B1171-90037).
