HP Motif/iX Programmer's Supplement
How to Use This Supplement
This supplement describes the differences in the implementation of X and
OSF/Motif libraries on the two operating systems (HP-UX and MPE/iX). With
such information, you will be able to effectively use X and OSF/Motif
developer's documentation when developing X clients on a 900 Series HP
3000 computer system.
Manuals that describe X and the OSF/Motif widget set are written assuming
that you are familiar with the HP-UX operating system (or other
UNIX(TM)-based computer system). They contain references to the
implementation of X and OSF/Motif widgets on an HP-UX-based HP 9000
computer system that do not apply to the implementation of HP Motif/iX on
an MPE/iX-based 900 Series HP 3000 computer system.
However, operating system-specific references are quite few and, in most
cases, information regarding X and OSF/Motif routines are applicable to
HP Motif/iX.
Are you developing an X client on MPE/iX?
If you are planning to develop an X client on MPE/iX, read the following
chapters:
* Chapter 2 provides an overview of implementation differences
between HP-UX and MPE/iX that you should be aware of when using X
and OSF/Motif developer's documentation.
* Chapter 3 provides an overview of the major tasks required to
develop an X client on MPE/iX.
Are you porting an X client to MPE/iX?
If you are planning to port an existing X client from HP-UX (or other
UNIX-based computer system) to MPE/iX, read the following chapters:
* Chapter 2 provides an overview of implementation differences
between HP-UX and MPE/iX that you should be aware of when using
the X and OSF/Motif developer's documentation.
* Chapter 4 provides an overview of the major tasks required to port
an existing X client to MPE/iX.
* Chapter 5 provides an overview of differences in the User
Interface Language and the Motif Resource Manager usage described
in OSF/Motif developer's documentation.
