HP VPLUS/Windows Programmer's Guide
Diagnostic Utility
You can run the VPLUS/Windows diagnostic utility, VWDIAG01, to do the
following after initially installing or updating software on the PC:
* Verify the existence of proper network hardware and software.
* Verify network reliability.
The utility also facilitates troubleshooting by separating application
problems from environmental problems. If VWDIAG01 runs without an error,
problems may exist in the application definition that starts the
application, in the Application Support File, or in your application
software. If VWDIAG01 terminates with an error, external problems may
exist, such as the PC configuration, the network, or VPLUS/Windows.
Perform the following steps to run the VWDIAG01 utility:
1. Create an Application Support File for VWDIAG01 as described in
steps a and b.
a. Include the following command that specifies the number of
data communications loops to execute:
SETJCW VWDIAGLOOPS=number_of_loops
If you do not set VWDIAGLOOPS, the default is a single loop.
b. Include the following command to change the transfer size:
SETJCW VWDIAGSIZE=number_of_bytes_per_transfer
If you do not set VWDIAGSIZE, the default is 1000 bytes per
transfer. The maximum size is 6000. Any value greater than
6000 automatically defaults to 6000.
2. Specify the run-time information needed for VWDIAG01 by doing the
following:
a. Click Define Application from the presentation server Action
menu to access the Define Application dialog box.
b. Specify VWDIAG01 for the application name and click Edit to
access the Define Application Options dialog box.
c. Specify HP 3000 and PC options in the Define Application
Options dialog box as shown in Figure 5-8.
d. Click Save to save the definition.

3. Run the VWDIAG01 utility by selecting it from the Start
Application dialog box and then clicking Start.
When you run the utility, the VPLUS/Windows presentation server displays
a progress message in the VWDIAG01 window, as shown in Figure 5-9.
Figure 5-9. VWDIAG01 Progress Message
If VWDIAG01 runs without an error, VPLUS/Windows displays the message
Test completed successfully in the VWDIAG01 window. After reading the
message, a user clicks OK to exit the utility.
If VWDIAG01 runs and terminates with an error, VPLUS/Windows displays a
termination message in the VWDIAG01 window that describes the error
encountered. After reading the message, a user clicks OK to exit the
utility.
