SPU Switchover/XL User's Guide

Hardware Requirements

The following hardware is required. See Figure 1-1 for a simplified
view of the hardware layout.

   * Two 900 Series HP 3000 computers that are comparable in
performance and configuration. This is required to ensure
sufficient computing capability so that either system can take
over activities for the other without being overwhelmed.

   * Two fiber link cards for each system, one for the system volume
sets and one for the switchable volume sets. The HP-FL (fiber
link) provides a communication link between two systems through
these drives, which allows each system access to information on
the other's disks. Shared disks must be configured as switchable
nonsystem volume sets and must contain all data for the
       application(s) designated for switchover.

       _________________________________________________________________

NOTE The fiber link disk drives, which are configured as
switchable volumes, must be connected through separate fiber
             link cards to the SPUs.

       _________________________________________________________________

   * A Vectra personal computer (not required, but strongly
recommended). This is required to run OpenView DTC (data terminal
controller) Manager for monitoring DTC switching.
