SWITCHOVER
Initiates the switchover of volume sets from one system to another.
Syntax
SWITCHOVER [FROM=]homesystem [[TO=]altsystem]
Parameters
homesystem Indicates the name of the failed system as
specified in the SYSGEN ASYSTEM command. When the
operator enters the command, volume sets specified
in the configuration as belonging to homesystem are
switched over and mounted to the altsystem.
altsystem Indicates the name of the alternate system as
specified in the SYSGEN ASYSTEM command. When the
operator enters the command from altsystem, volume
sets specified in the configuration that belong to
homesystem are switched over and mounted to the
altsystem.
Operation Notes
The operator must enter the command from the alternate system console.
The operator should enter the command after deciding that switching over
is preferable to rebooting the home system.
The operator can also enter this command when the home system is
operative in order to perform maintenance, to reconfigure, or to load
balance the home system.
NOTE This command is entered on the system where the volume sets are
going to.
If the home system is inoperative, the system status message stops
between the home system and the alternate system. If the home system is
operative, the system status message continues during the switchover.
The operator can enter the command within a session, a job, a program, or
in break mode.
The following sequence must occur before an operator can enter the
SWITCHOVER command:
1. The SPU Switchover/XL environment must be properly configured
using the SYSGEN utility SPU commands.
2. The configuration must be activated using the SPUCONTROL SETUP
command.
3. The SPU Switchover/XL environment must be activated using the
SPUCONTROL START command.
4. If the home system is operative, the switchable nonsystem volume
sets must be closed.
For this command to function properly, the SPU configuration file must
include a pair with homesystem as the home system and altsystem as the
alternate system.
The operator must have OP or SM capability to enter this command.
Example
The following command is entered from the alternate system's console
(Beta) when a system failure or load balancing occurs:
: SWITCHOVER FROM=ALPHA TO=BETA Return
The alternate system (Beta) responds by displaying the following message:
/00:00/nn/SPU SWITCHOVER FROM ALPHA TO BETA STARTING.
You must reply to the following message that appears when switchover has
successfully finished:
/00:00/nn/ACKNOWLEDGE SPU SWITCHOVER FROM ALPHA
TO BETA COMPLETE (Y/N)?
=REPLY nn,Y
This message is displayed every 30 seconds until the operator
acknowledges completion of the switchover. The reply has no effect
except to stop the repeating message.
