SPU Switchover/XL User's Guide

Configuration Requirements

The following configurations are required for a network switchover.

Hardware Configuration

The following hardware configurations are required for network
switchover:

   * The NS LAN must be separate from the TIO/X.25 LAN.

   * All DTC SNP cards used for an X.25 LAN network on the home system
       must be dedicated to the home system or the home and alternate
       system. No other systems can use these SNPs.

       _________________________________________________________________

       NOTE X.25 communications will be disrupted during a switch over.

       _________________________________________________________________

   * Both the home and alternate systems must use the OpenView DTC
       manager.

Network Configuration

Two configuration files are required on the alternate system:

   * NMCONBAC.PUB.SYS containing the alternate systems standard
       configuration. The standard configuration for the alternate
       system must contain:

          *   For terminal I/O:

                 * The same TIO/X.25 Link configuration (for example,
                     LINK.DTSLINK) as the home system.

                 * The same TIO configuration (DTS subtree) as the home
                     system. (Additional terminals and printers can be
                     configured, but the file must contain the same
                     profiles and nailed port configuration as the home
                     system.)

   * NMCONMN.PUB.SYS containing the configuration required for a
       switchover. The switchover configuration for the alternate system
       must contain the following:

          *   For the LAN Network:

                 * The same nodename as the home system.

                 * The same LAN IP address as the home system.

                 * The same 802 address as the home system. (This will
                     override the chip 802 address.)

          *   For X.25 Network:

                 * The same X.25 NI configuration (for example, the
                     NETXPORT.NI.X25NET subtree) as the home system.

          *   For Terminal I/O:

                 * The same TIO/X.25 Link configuration (for example,
                     LINK.DTSLINK) as the home system.

                 * The same TIO configuration (DTS subtree) as the home
                     system. (Additional terminals and printers can be
                     configured, but the file must contain the same
                     profiles and nailed port configuration as the home
                     system.)

Network Directory Configuration

The alternate system must contain the same network directory
(NSDIR.NET.SYS) as the home system.

OpenView DTC Manager Configuration

The DTC configuration required on the OpenView DTC Manager workstation is
as follows:

   * The home and alternate systems must both reside on the OpenView
       DTC Manager (OVDTCMGR) Network Map.

   * For each DTC being used for TIO/PAD traffic on the home and
       alternate system, there must be two configurations:

          * A standard DTC configuration with terminals and PAD
              connections configured for either switching or connecting
              to a host (home or alternate) system as desired.

          * A switchover DTC configuration where all nonswitched
              (directly-connected) terminal and PAD connections are
              configured to connect to the alternate system.
