HP Business BASIC/XL Migration Guide
FILES Statement
Some of these statements are automatically translated by the migration
aid. The translation method depends on the purpose of the FILES
statement.
The BASIC/V FILES statement serves three purposes:
1. Open files.
2. Reserve file numbers.
3. Specify files to be shared between functions.
FILES statements that accomplish the first two tasks are automatically
translated as indicated below. FILES statements that accomplish the
third task must be manually translated as indicated in chapter 10,
"Evaluating Changes You Need to Make".
Open Files
FILES statements of the form
FILES AAA,BBB
open the two files named AAA and BBB and associates them with the next
two available file numbers. The migration aid automatically translates
FILES statements of this form to one or more ASSIGN statements.
Reserve File Numbers
FILES statements of the form
FILES *,*,*
reserve the next three available file numbers for possible future ASSIGN
statements. This is unnecessary in HP Business BASIC/XL. The statement
is changed to a comment.
