Operation
The tic utility compiles source terminfo descriptions. The compiled
entry is installed under the /usr/lib/terminfo directory hierarchy. If
the TERMINFO environment variable is set, results are placed in the
directory it points to instead. Entries are stored in directories that
match the first character of their name. The entry for the VT-100
terminal, for example, is stored in /usr/lib/terminfo/v/vt100.
When a use= specification is found in the source file, tic adds the
binary of the appropriate capabilities to the compiled file.
The tic utility can only be used to compile single files. Multiple files
can be compiled by concatenating individual files together.
Compiled entries cannot exceed 4098 bytes. The name field cannot exceed
128 bytes. Terminal names that are longer than 14 characters are
truncated to 14 characters, and a warning message is printed.
Syntax
tic.hpbin.sys [-v[n]] -c file
Parameters
-v[n] provides varying level of detail on the compilation
process where n is a number from 1 to 10 (default
is 1). The higher the value for n, the more detail
provided.
-c checks for errors in file (not including errors in
use=links).
Example
tic.hpbin.sys /product/curses/lib/terminfo/ansi
