Performing System Operation Tasks
Chapter 9 Starting and Recovering the System
Before anyone can use your computer system, it must be started. This
chapter briefly discusses how to start and restart the system. It also
discusses recovering from system failure.
"System startup" refers to the procedure for starting the computer
software, the operating system, and other programs that you use. It
rarely refers to turning on the power to the computer, disk drives, tape
drives, printers, and the console. It does not refer to installing and
configuring your system for any new release. (A separate installation
guide comes with every new release.) During normal use, computer
hardware remains powered on. If the power to the hardware is ever turned
off, contact your system manager.
In this chapter, you will find the procedures to perform the following
tasks:
* Starting the system under normal conditions
* Starting the system after a scheduled shutdown
* Recovering from a system failure
