Clearing Paper Jams in a Page Printer
The page printer is designed to retain print information in memory until
it has successfully printed and transferred to paper. If you have a
paper jam before the above process has completed, the pages will reprint,
without interaction from the host computer, after clearing the jam.
To clear paper jams in a page printer
When a paper jam occurs, it usually happens in one of the following areas
of the printer:
* Input area
* Output area
If the carrier strip holes are not torn, you may move the jam through the
input tractors by pressing the 6 and ENTER keys. This places the printer
in Jam Recovery Mode.
If the carrier strip holes are torn, press the PAPER REVERSE key on the
Paper Control Panel to pull the paper backward through the printer.
Determine the location of the paper jam and follow the procedures below.
To clear a paper jam in the input area
1. Open the paper input tractors. Open the paper output door and
remove the paper from the output tractors. Ensure that the paper
is not caught on either set of tractors.
2. While maintaining tension on the paper from the output tractor,
press the PAPER FORWARD key to move paper through the printer
until the paper jam is cleared.
3. Reposition the paper in the paper tractors and the stacker.
4. Close all doors and top cover and press the RUN key to resume
printing.
To clear a paper jam in the output area
1. Open the paper output door.
2. Open the output tractors and remove the paper from the pinwheels.
While pulling on the paper just removed, use the PAPER FORWARD key
to move the jam through the printer.
3. Reposition the paper in the output tractors and close the paper
output door. Make sure that the paper is folded correctly in the
stacker.
4. Press the RUN key to resume printing.
