Managing System Security by Passwords
System security and access to system resources is usually controlled by
passwords. These may be issued to individual users, user groups, and
accounts. Only users who know the passwords can start a session or job.
Invalid Passwords
When starting a session, users are given three chances to enter passwords
correctly. When starting a job, users only have one chance to enter the
right password in the job stream. If a logon attempt fails after three
password entries, an entry is made in the log that indicates the user and
the failure to log on after three tries.
Entry of an invalid password produces a message on the system console
that will be similar to, but not necessarily the same as, the following:
10:56/#S420/77/INVALID PASSWORD DURING LOGON ON LDEV #nn
Missing Passwords
Passwords must be included in the first line of the job file. If the
password is missing, the computer sends a message to the system console
that is similar to the one it sends for an invalid password:
10:56/#S420/77/INVALID PASSWORD DURING LOGON ON LDEV #nn
