Controlling System Activity

Establishing User-level UDCs

A user defined command (UDC) is a command that is created from commands
or other UDCs. For example, if a series of commands is often used,
create a UDC that contains the commands. When you need to use the
commands, issue a single command--the UDC.

UDCs exist at the system, account, and user levels. The system manager
establishes system-level UDCs, the account manager establishes
account-level UDCs, and you establish your own user UDCs. System
managers and account managers may also establish user-level UDCs.

Logon UDCs are a special type of UDC that execute whenever the general
user logs on. A single logon UDC executes at each UDC level. General
users control their user logon UDC. System managers and account managers
may also control user logon UDCs. Logon UDCs are useful when a
particular application is run every logon. For example, suppose that a
general user runs an electronic mail program at each system logon. A
logon UDC could run that program for the user.

The Using the 900 Series HP 3000:Advanced Skills (32650- 60039) describes
how to create and catalog user UDCs and logon UDCs.
