Changing Volume Status
The status of a volume can be MASTER, MEMBER, LONER, UNKNOWN, and
SCRATCH. The MASTER and MEMBER status is established automatically when a
volume master or member is created.
A MASTER is designated a LONER when it is closed with the VSCLOSE
command. A MEMBER is designated a LONER when its volume set has been
closed or its MASTER is not mounted.
A disk is designated SCRATCH when it is deleted with the SCRATCHVOL

The status of a disk that is physically mounted but not logically labeled
(has not been created as part of a volume set) is UNKNOWN.
