INFORM/V User's Guide

Chapter 11 TECHNICAL ADMINISTRATION

This section presents the technical aspects of preparing data for access
by users of INFORM/V. It describes, first, the procedures for
establishing INFORM Groups, then the mechanics of file linkage when the
elements for a report are drawn from more than one file, and, finally,
the procedures for defining INFORM/V security.

Unlike Sections 1 through 10 of this Guide, this section is written for
database administrators. It is assumed that the reader has a thorough
knowledge of DICTIONARY/V, IMAGE/V or TurboIMAGE/V databases, and MPE/V.

DICTIONARY/V is used to establish INFORM Groups and to define the
security for INFORM/V users. It is the job of the database administrator
to define the data elements in the dictionary and to organize the data
appropriately for the reporting needs of the INFORM/V users.

The first step in preparing the data dictionary for INFORM/V users is to
be sure that all elements the user needs are defined in the data
dictionary. In addition, each of these elements must be associated with
its file (MPE, KSAM, or data set file), and each data set must also be
associated with its database file.

Once the data elements are defined in the data dictionary and are
associated with a file, you can begin organizing the data for use with
INFORM/V. You use the dictionary maintenance program DICTDBM to establish
INFORM/V Groups and to associate elements and files with them. You also
use DICTDBM to establish INFORM/V security.
