Troubleshooting Procedures When Using X.400 with Elm or Mailx
The following troubleshooting procedures can only be run after
successfully installing and configuring X.400 (i.e. you can successfully
communicate with another system).
This section is organized as follows:
* General troubleshooting procedures - procedures to run before
looking for a specific problem.
* HP as initiator - procedures to run if an outgoing message did not
arrive at its destination and if a non-delivery notification is or
is not received.
* HP as responder - procedures to run if an incoming message did not
arrive at its destination and if a non-delivery notification is or
is not received.
When a message does not arrive at its destination, the problem is almost
always caused by one or more of the following:
* Connection failure - failure to connect with the remote X.400
node. This could be caused by a problem on the remote system.
* Route failure - failure to route a message due to an incorrect
route configuration or message address specification.
* Local system failure - failure of the local system to send a
message to its final destination such as mailx, elm, OpenMail or
an adjacent MTA.
