X.400 Loopback Verification When Using X.400 with HP Desk

You can execute a loopback test from HP Desk to verify that the
components (MTA, encoder, decoder, and x4xfer) on X.400 can send and
receive a message. To execute the test, send a mail message from HP Desk
that loops back at the MTA on X.400. The mail message should be returned
to your Intray. Refer to the HP Desk to MTA Loopback section in the HP
X.400/HP Desk Node Administrator's Guide on how to perform the HP Desk to
MTA loopback test.

Before you execute the test, verify that the event logging is enabled on
X.400 using the ENFLAGS utility within x4admin or the x4stat command.
Event logging can be enabled using the EVENTLOG utility within x4admin or
the x4eventlog command. Also verify that the components are running
using the PROCESS utility within x4admin or the x4stat command.

If the HP Desk to MTA loopback test fails, use the HP X.400/HP Desk
commands X400QUEVIEW
to check the HP X.400/HP Desk queues and X400UTIL to check the HP
X.400/HP Desk log file.

To verify the loopback test on X.400 when the loopback test fails, do the
following:

   1. Track the message on X.400 in the event log files using the
MSGTRACK utility within x4admin or the x4msgtrack command. The
name of the file transferred from the HP X.400/HP Desk Node to
X.400 is the name of the file found in the HP X.400/HP Desk log
file. You can also track the message by checking individual event
log files. The files should be checked in the order of encoder,
MTA, decoder, and x4xfer. To look at the event log files, use the
EVENTS utility within x4admin or the more command. If using more,
look at the files encoder.evnt, mta.evnt, decoder.evnt, and
       x4xfer.evnt that are in /usr/spool/x400/log.

   2. Use the QUEVIEW
utility within x4admin or the x4queview command to look at the
queues in the directories and to check if the message is in one of
       the following queues:

       EIQ/nodename

                                 Input queue
                                 for the encoder process.

       IQ

                                 Output queue
for the encoder and input queue for the
                                 MTA.

       OQ/oqnumber

                                 Output queue
for the MTA and input queue for the
decoder. The HP X.400/HP Desk Node has
                                 a designated OQ (e.g. oq001). This OQ
can be determined using the QUEUE
utility within x4admin or the x4stat
                                 command.

       DOQ/oqnumber

                                 Output queue
for the decoder and input queue for
x4xfer. The HP X.400/HP Desk Node has a
designated OQ (e.g. oq001). This OQ
can be determined using the QUEUE
utility within x4admin or the x4stat
                                 command.

   3. Check if any critical errors occurred. Use the FMTERRS utility in
x4admin or the x4logview command to display errors in the error
       log file.
