Netware 3.11 for the HP 3000 Installing and Administering Guide

Choose Client Type

Depending on your hardware, software, and connection needs, you need to
decide what type of NetWare client you want to configure. This chapter
provides examples for the following:

   * For NetWare only client access:

          * If you want to use the older, dedicated IPX client driver,
(for example, you have an NDIS LAN card driver), follow the
              instructions for using WSGEN.

          * If you can use the ODI client (which is the Novell
recommended solution for 3.11 networks), follow the example
              for ODI clients.

   * For both NetWare and MPE virtual terminal services access, you
create a NetWare client shell, then install the HP PC NS/ARPA
Services product (J2246A) (along with a terminal emulation product
such as HP AdvanceLink), and follow the example for dual protocol
stacks. Using dual stacks, the PC only needs one LAN card and one
       connection to the network.

   * If you have Windows installed on your PC, in addition to the
NetWare client only, or dual protocol stack client, additional
steps are required to complete configuration. Create your NetWare
shells first, then refer to the Novell Workstation for Windows
       manual.
