Netware 3.11 for the HP 3000 Installing and Administering Guide
Complete the File Server Worksheet
After installing the product, pull out a copy of the File Server
Worksheet from this guide. A copy of the worksheet is included in this
chapter see Figure 2-2 . An additional copy is in Appendix A.
If you want to change any of the configured items listed on the File
Server Worksheet, follow the instructions below. These parameter
descriptions correspond to the values entered in the Quick Configuration
screen in SCONSOLE.
File Server Name
The default file server name is NWIX_DEFAULT.
You can create a new name for the NetWare file server up to 40 characters
long. It can contain letters, numbers, or these special characters: +,
-, #, !, $, %, , &, @, periods, and underscores. Enter the new name on
the File Server Worksheet.
The file server name must be different than any other server accessible
over the LAN. To verify you have selected a unique name, check the names
of other servers on your LAN:
1. From a NetWare client, connect to a NetWare server and enter the
command:
F:> slist
2. The names of active NetWare file servers are displayed under the
heading, Known NetWare File Servers.
Internal Network Number
The internal network number must be specified as exactly eight
hexadecimal numbers in length. The internal network number is defaulted
to 3000FFFF.
This parameter specifies the unique network number for the internal
network. Enter a string representing a hexadecimal number in the range
of 0x0-0xF, non-inclusive (00000001-FFFFFFFE). If you use a number less
than eight numbers in length, include the leading zeroes (for example,
00001111).
If you have other NetWare file servers on the LAN (native or other
NetWare for UNIX servers), verify that this number does not conflict with
existing file servers:
1. From a NetWare client, connect to a NetWare server and enter the
command:
F:> slist
2. The active NetWare file servers are displayed. Review the numbers
under the heading labeled Network. If you must change the
internal network number, enter the new one on your File Server
Worksheet.
Device Name
On MPE/iX systems, if your LAN is configured in NMMGR with a name other
than SYSLINK, or you are using token-ring you need to know the correct
device name to use. The device name is a file name in the following
format:
/dev/dlpi.linkname
where the linkname corresponds to the link name configured in NMMGR. The
device file name must be entered in all lowercase characters. See
Chapter 1, in the section, "Verify Link Configuration", for information
on verifying and creating a device name.
If you are changing the device name, enter the new one on your File
Server Worksheet. If you are using the default, make a note of it on the
worksheet.
Frame Type
The NetWare for the HP 3000 product defaults to Ethernet 802.3 frame
type.
Native Novell NetWare 3.11 servers and clients are usually configured for
Ethernet 802.3 frame type. Check the configuration of your other NetWare
file servers. If you need to change NetWare for the HP 3000 to Ethernet
II or Ethernet 802.2, write the change in the blank box next to Frame
Type on the File Server Worksheet.
If you have decided to change other native NetWare servers to use
Ethernet II, refer to Chapter 7, Advanced Configuration which describes
how to change Native NetWare servers and the client shells to support
Ethernet II.
For a LAN network you can use Ethernet 802.3, Ethernet II, or Ethernet
802.2 frame type. Native NetWare 4.01 servers and Native NetWare 3.12
servers default to 802.2 frame type.
For a token-ring network you use the token-ring frame type. Write in the
frame type you want in the blank box next to Frame Type on the File
Server Worksheet.
External Network Number
The external network number can be up to eight hexadecimal numbers in
length. The default external network number is 00000002.
If you have other NetWare file servers and want the NetWare for the HP
3000 file server on the same LAN, make sure that all the NetWare file
servers have the same external network number. Network addresses are
used by the NetWare operating system to set apart networks (cabling
systems). This network address is also assigned to all stations on the
file server's network.
See Figure 2-1 for needed information.
To check your existing NetWare network, from a NetWare client, log on to
your existing NetWare server and enter the NetWare command:
F:> userlist /a
Your log in name is highlighted with an asterisk (*). The external
network number is listed in the field labeled Network.
If you need to change the external network number to match the other file
servers you want to access, enter the new number on the File Server
Worksheet.
