Named Constants in PARAMETER Statements

In the PARAMETER statement of FORTRAN 66/V, the type of a named constant
is determined solely by the constant itself and not by the initial letter
of its name. In HP FORTRAN 77/V, the type is determined by the initial
letter of the name. For this reason, a named constant should be
explicitly typed before using the PARAMETER statement.
